A leading human rights activist will join a walk celebrating a Chesterfield icon and raising cash for the town’s LGBT+ centre.

The walk has been organised to honour the life of poet and philosopher Edward Carpenter – who was born in 1844 and lived as an openly gay man at a time when it was illegal to be gay.

Chesterfield organisers Luke Povey and Coun Ed Fordham have now revealed that Peter Tatchell, who has become famous for human rights campaigns in the UK and overseas, will join them as they celebrate Edward’s life on Sunday, August 30.
