Nando’s has removed and replaced four items from its food menu. The restaurant chain will no longer offer customers the following items: Sweet potato mashSweet potato and butternut squashFillet steak and chargrilled veg wrapFeta cheese The ‘Mango & Lime’ flavouring is also being replaced by ‘Passionfruit & Mango’. A spokesman for the company said, “We have removed Sweet Potato Mash from our menu, along with Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash, Feta Cheese, Fillet Steak & Chargrilled Veg and Mango & Lime Spice, in order to add newness for our customers.” What will replace them? Nando’s is yet to say what will replace each item on the menu specifically, but promised customers new “seasonal sides” which will be offered over the course of the year. Along with seasonal sides and the redeveloped ‘Passionfruit & Mango’, Nando’s will also release a vegan ‘Perinaise’ Nando’s Nando’s is a South African restaurant chain that serves a mix of Portuguese-style cuisine. The company was founded in Johannesburg in 1987 by Fernando Duarte and Robert Brozin, and named after Duarte’s son. After success running three stores in South Africa and one in Portugal, the pair sold the company in 1992 by Capricorn Ventures. There are now more than 1,000 Nando’s restaurants across the world. In 2010 Nando’s UK won the Sunday Times’ best place to work award. In 2014, The Guardian reported that Nando’s UK was using a “elaborate offshore web of companies” on Jersey to reduce its tax bill. The paper claimed that Dick Enthoven, the South African owner of Nando’s UK arm, also uses multiple offshore techniques to reduce the company’s UK corporation tax bill by “up to a third”. The scheme allegedly makes use of companies based in Malta, Guernsey and the Netherlands.
