A Buxton gallery will be officially opened tonight (Thursday) with an art auction in aid of Blythe House Hospice.

Gallery 23, on The Colonnade, has created four jobs and replaces knitwear shop Makepiece.

The studio will be opened by High Peak mayor and mayoress Cllr Alan and Sue Barrow at 7pm.

Artwork to be sold off for the Chapel-en-le-Frith hospice will include a canvas depicting the evening, painted live by Carl Longmate.

The artist will also add in the winner of the lot into the painting.

It is the second fine art showroom to be launched by Tameside duo painter Christine Ormsby and photographer Peter Aitchison, after Gallery 23 in Stalybridge, Cheshire, which opened last year.

The new gallery will be open six days a week and will display work by Peak artists, including still life paintings, ceramics and photographs.

Blythe House Hospice, on Eccles Fold, offers free, holistic care and support for anyone in the High Peak living with cancer or other life-threatening illness.
