Bakewell prepares for green festival

A Bakewell festival for all things green is set to encourage Peak residents and businesses to live, work and enjoy the area in environmentally friendly ways.

The Bakewell Green Festival is to be held on July 12, at the Agricultural Business Centre, on Agricultural Way, from 10am until 6pm.

It will be a free, fun, family day out with stalls, activities, music, dance, drama, talks and demonstrations. The organisers are looking for individuals, groups, organisations and businesses who would like to run stalls, provide activities, give presentations, or demonstrate sustainable crafts, skills and lifestyles.

One of the organisers, Jeni Edwards, said: “We want to hear from people who can share their joy, knowledge and skills in sustainable living to help make this a great day for encouraging others to be greener.”

The festival is neither fundraising or profit-making and has benefited from a grant of more than £3,000 from the Peak District Sustainable Development Fund.

Richard Godley, of the Peak District National Park Authority, said: “Encouraging people to learn from other people’s experiences is a great way to spread positive messages about sustainable ways of living.” To get involved, visit bakewellgreenfestival.org.
