Bonsall puts on a right shin dig
Music Makers: The Ripley Green Garter Morris take to the streets at the Bonsall Carnival.
A spot of sun gave village spirit a boost over the weekend.
The rain stayed away for Bonsall Carnival on Saturday, and villagers both past and present turned out to make the most of the weather.
Throughout the day there were displays from Amber Valley Gymnasts and the infamous Bonsall Red Barrows, who mesmirised the crowd with their choreographed wheel barrow routine to Ravel’s Bolero.
In the evening, there were musical performances from the Dooberies, Pint of Mud and Steaming Isaacs.
The following day the BMW Brass Band performed and cream teas were served.

Hazel Baldwin, chairman of the Bonsall Carnival Committee, said: “We always seem to have brilliant weather for our carnival.
“I’ve been involved for 17 years and I think we have had only one year when it has rained.
Winners of the fancy dress contests were Andrew Slater, who entered the five years and under category dressed as a snail, Molly Ross, who won the six to 11 year old category with her Olympic torch costume, Lorraine Taylor, who won the aged 12 and over category with her burlesque outfit.
The winner of the best dressed float contest was Around the World in 80 days, by Lorraine Taylor.

Jeff and Ann won the best dressed house contest with their scarecrow house.
Hazel said: “the carnival brings the whole community together – young and old.
“We have people who don’t live in the village anymore coming to enjoy it.”
The festivities continue with a walking treasure hunt today and the five–a–side finale tomorrow.

There will also be a Shambolic Fire Show on Friday, a lantern procession from St James’ Church to the park and the firework finale.
