Festival cheque

A cash sum has given a boost to an annual arts festival, which sees hordes of art lovers flock to the Dale.

Wirkworth Festival has been presented with a cheque for £500 by district councillor for Wirksworth, Garry Purdy.

The money came as a result of the Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Community Leadership scheme.

The funding will be used to support the themed community celebration day in Wirksworth on September 23.

The festival is held every year and is going from strength to strength with artists and performers from all over the country coming to the market town to show off their talents.

The addition of a fringe element to the festival has been a popular change.
