Gamesley’s annual Meet the Neighbours event took on a World War I theme on Thursday culminating in the release of a dole of white doves.

The day, organised by community group G52, took place at Winster Mews from 11.30am to 2.30pm and featured wartime activities such as knitting or planting poppies, a reading of the Flanders Field poem, a traditional piano sing-along and a free corned beef dinner in the square.
