A Glossop man will be jumping out of a plane next month to raise money for a veterans’ charity.

Former soldier Mark Dawson will be attempting his first skydive on May 9 at Maidstone Airfield in Kent in aid of mental health society Combat Stress.

The 31-year-old served for ten years in the army as a combat medical technician and two years as a dog trainer.

He said: “It was during my third tour of duty in 2008 that I was involved in another mass casualty situation and reached my breaking point.

“It took another four years for all the symptoms to manifest and eventually I was medically discharged. When I left the military, I was given no support by the army.

“I then heard about Combat Stress and the amazing work they do with veterans. So far I have raised £500 but am hoping to raise much more.”

Last year, Mark, now a photographer, attended a six-week intensive post traumatic stress disorder course, organised by Combat Stress, in Audley Court in Shropshire.

Combat Stress helps ex-service personnel suffering from psychological injuries and mental health problems.
