Hadfield charity Mummy’s Star has been awarded £10,000 of lottery funding.

The Big Lottery Fund presented the UK’s only charity for pregnant women with cancer with the largest possible Awards for All grant.

Founder Pete Wallroth set up Mummy’s Star in June in memory of his wife Mair, who died from breast cancer in December 2012, just two months after giving birth to her son.

He said: “This funding is great news. Because we’re still a relatively new charity, we’re using it to pay for materials which we’ll use to get word out about what we do and raise our profile, so that we can reach and help the right people all over the country.

“We need to produce things like information leaflets, clothing for people to wear during sponsored events, ‘Charibands’ or eco-friendly, re-usable bags, and promotional items. Securing this funding to cover costs like these means that we can use the money which people work so hard to raise for us to directly help affected families.”

The charity offers advice, information, grants and support to families affected by cancer during pregnancy and soon after birth.
