The state of Chesterfield skatepark has scome under fire.

Residents have hit out at the “disgusting” state of Chesterfield skatepark.

Mr Kay, of Chesterfield, said: “It’s an unpleasant place to walk.”

On the Derbyshire Times’ Facebook page, Nicola Clark said: “Shameful.

“It’s a good job it’s in a well hidden place because it’s letting the town down.”

Donna Watts said: “It’s disgusting down there.

“When I’ve walked past before there was a mattress there.

“It’s not a pleasant site that’s for sure.”

Katerina Roberts said: “With a bit of imagination, proper planning and facilities, the area could be turned into a pleasant walkway and park.”

Responding to this story on the Derbyshire Times’ website, one skateboarder from Chesterfield said yobs were to blame for the mess.

He commented: “We have to sweep the entire skatepark of smashed glass, bottles and stones every morning before anyone can ride on it.”

Another user added: “It’s not the skateboarders who make it look so bad – it’s the people who get drunk and break their bottles here.”

Henry Boot Developments, which owns the land, have not yet responded to requests for a comment.

A spokesman for Chesterfield Borough Council said its litter pickers carry out daily collections around the site.
