THIS photograph was sent in by Dave Orford of Belper, and was snapped above Matlock Bath.

Dave had been representing Matlock Bath Chamber of Trade at the World Road Championships for veterans in 1971.

It was held at St Johann in Tirol, Austria.

Despite being taken more than 40 years ago, Dave has been no stranger to cycling publicity down the years.

Last year he celebrated his 80th birthday and was described as being one of the most “significant Derbyshire sporting figures of the last 60 years”

He was seven times the world veteran cycling champion, but perhaps more importantly, helped drag the sport into a professional era during the 1950s and 60s.

Among his most notable achievements was to help set up sponsorship of what became the Milk Race.
