Ambulance driver honoured for his role in pot-hole rescue drama

editorial image

An ambulance man was honoured for his role in a pot hole rescue.

Ian Dey, of Matlock, received a major commendation after he perched on a two foot wide ledge about a sheer drop while shielding an injured and trapped caver in Eyam.

The Bakewell–based ambulance worker was presented with the award by Arthur Lamb, chairman of South Derbyshire Health Authority.

When making the presentation, Mr Lamb described the hero’s action as ‘one of remarkable unselfishness’.

In this picture taken in 1985, Mrs Dorothy Dey and their five children, Ian, Richard, Julie, Angela and Karen, are all pictured here alongside Mr Dey and Mr Lamb.
