May Day queen

In a tradition which still takes place today, youngsters at Beeley School at seen here celebrating May Day.

The picture was taken in 1955 and Janet Holmes was chosen to be queen on the day. She is pictured here crowned with flowers and wearing a daisy chain.

Head teacher Mrs G A Storer and her assistant Miss J Hutchinson as also pictured with Janet.

Other children in the photograph are Marlene Gilbert, Gloria Wigley, Roy Hammersley, John Hancock and Anne Towndrow.

Frank Robinson is also pictured, along with John Grindley, Sheila Cantrill, David Jeffrey and Lavina Towndrow.
