Stitching up for charity

Shoppers at Peak Village have been getting their knitters in a twist to raise money for Chrohn’s and Colitis UK.

A ‘Knitting Chair’ was placed in the Old Station Building in January and since then adults and children alike have paid £1 and 50p respectively to knit a length to add to the scarf.

The aim of the project is to knit a length of scarf that stretches around the whole of the Peak Village shopping centre and back again – while raising much-needed funds for a worthy cause.

If knitting is not your thing, there is also a competition to guess which shop the scarf will reach once it’s completed and this will be running until the end of September.

The winner will receive a £20 voucher for Peak Barn and a £50 Peak Village voucher.

Terrence Morgan, spokesman for Peak Village, said: “The Knitathon has proved so popular with visitors that we have decided to extend the length of the competition and hopefully the scarf too.

“There are some great prizes on offer and all the money raised will be going directly to Crohn’s and Colitis UK, so we hope the school holidays will see many more people call in and take part.”
