John Ross said: “I think it’s a good idea to get youngsters on benefits working in the community. If young people get out of the habit of working and meeting people it can be very difficult to get back into it again.”

Caroline Rhoades said: “I’ve worked with the long-term unemployed before and I know how important it is for people in that position not to lose focus. As long as they’re treated right, – it’s a good scheme.”

David Porter said: “I’m all for it. It will make unemployed youngsters realise what they’re missing. Earning money is a good feeling, but it’s also the social aspect of being at work that is very important.”

Elaine Ulliott said: “It’s a good idea as long as the young people aren’t taken advantage of. Hopefully this is a genuine initiative to help people and not just about getting some labour back from benefit payments.”

Ann Walter said: “I just hope they will be getting something out of the experience. If young people get the right support and training – and maybe even travel and food expenses – then I think it’s a fair proposal.”

Georganne Barlow said: “It’s very important for young people to get a work ethic so I’m in favour. However, it is important that they are treated as an employee and not just free labour.”
