RE: Tildy Flitcroft Petition to create a ring road round Matlock.
A member of Derbyshire County Council who dealt with roads told me around the 80’s (if that is the right date) a plan was made to have a tunnel from Cromford, through the Tors to the other side of Matlock.
This would be part paid by Derbyshire Stone, who would get high quality minerals from the tunnel. I think he said it would be quite costly, but never went ahead with it.
This would be an ideal solution to the problem, ease congestion at Matlock Bath, Matlock and Starkholmes.
