Three well dressings will be erected in Eyam tomorrow (Friday) to mark the start of carnival week.

The Hope Valley village’s celebrations include the crowning of the carnival queens on Saturday followed by a childrens’ disco in Eyam Mechanics’ Institute.

On Sunday, there will be a pig roast and beer festival at the Miners Arms, on Water Lane, and a plague service at Cucklet Delph Church at 2.30pm.

On bank holiday Monday, there’s a village show in Mechanics’ Institute culminating in a prize giving and auction at 7pm and on Tuesday runners can join the annual fell race, starting from Hawkhill Road car park at 6.30pm.

The main event, carnival day, takes place on Saturday, August 30, and features a fancy dress competition at Eyam C of E Primary School playground, on Church Street, at 1pm and a parade of floats and bands through the village from 2.45pm.
