editorial image

High–flyers were rewarded for their hard work at a school presentation evening.

Students from Anthony Gell School, in Wirksworth, were presented with their GCSE and A–level certificates by guest speaker Ian Thomas, strategic director for children and younger adults at Derbyshire County Council. The event was well attended by students, their proud parents and staff from the school.

Head teacher David Baker congratulated the students on their excellent exam results which were the school’s best to date with 90 per cent of year 11 students gaining five higher grades and 65 per cent gaining five higher grades with English and maths.

He also thanked the staff for their hard work and the parents for all their support and encouragement.

Mr Thomas spoke of his own educational and career path and urged the students to aim high and be ambitious for their future careers.
