King: Too many Saturdays spoil song

Mollie King has said The Saturdays like to write their songs separately as too many of them working together can get in the way of the music.

Mollie, Una Foden, Vanessa White, Rochelle Humes and Frankie Bridge have been together since 2008 and have very nearly finished their sixth album, which they hope will be released before the end of 2014. They've been heavily involved in the songwriting, and continue their tradition of splitting up to write separately.

Mollie said: "It can get a bit congested if we all write together. Too many cooks, that kind of thing. And it can be noisy if we're all shouting out ideas too. Listening back to what we've all been doing is really exciting, I love hearing what the others have been doing."

While the girls insist they are not splitting up, they are preparing to embark on a greatest hits tour - with 18 singles to perform.

And Mollie admitted it can get a bit emotional performing some of their older tracks which bring back a lot of memories.

She revealed: "I always find that when we get to sit down and sing a ballad. The rest of the time, we'll be concentrating on singing and the dance routine, but when you're on a stool looking out at the crowd you can have a real pinch-yourself moment."

Frankie, Una and Rochelle are all mothers now and they insist juggling family life only enhances the band.

Frankie said: "If anything, it's made us stronger. We've always seen the band as a family unit, and now there are kids and dogs running around, that's bigger than ever.

"Going on tour is like being at home!"

:: The Saturdays' Finest Selection: The Greatest Hits is out now. They begin an accompanying tour on September 7.
