Extra date for Miss Daisy

AN extra performance has been added to Driving Miss Daisy’s forthcoming stay at Derby Theatre.

Due to the overwhelming demand for tickets to see the production, starring Derbyshire actress Gwen Taylor, an additional performance has been added on Thursday, November 22, at 2.30pm.

Since the production was announced, as part of the current season, the demand for tickets has been consistently high.

The Wednesday matinee sold out almost straight away and the evening performances are all on the verge of selling out too.

Gary Johnson, theatre manager said: “We expected this production to be popular and are delighted with the response we have received from individuals, schools and group bookers.

“Being as the Wednesday matinee sold out very quickly, we expect this Thursday matinee performance to do just the same, so my advice would be to book as soon as you can.

“The theatre feels very alive, vibrant and busy at the moment and we hope it is very much a sign of things to come for the future. We look forward to welcoming new and existing audiences this autumn and Christmas.”

Following critically acclaimed sell-out runs on Broadway and in the West End, Alfred Uhry’s Pulitzer prize winning play, Driving Miss Daisy, starring Gwen Taylor as Daisy Werthan and Don Warrington as Hoke Coleburn is currently on a national tour and will play at Derby Theatre for from November 19-24.

Driving Miss Daisy debuted off-Broadway and two years later the play was made into a 1989 film with Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy.

When Daisy Werthan, a widowed, 72 year-old Jewish woman living in mid-century Atlanta, is deemed too old to drive, her son Boolie hires Hoke Coleburn, an African American man, to serve as her chauffeur. What begins as a troubled and hostile pairing soon blossoms into a profound, life-altering friendship that transcends all the societal boundaries placed between them.
