Film night looks at county’s past

Cromford Mills and The Media Archive for Central England (MACE) will be hosting a film night at the Gothic Warehouse, Cromford Mills, on Saturday, November 24, from 7pm.

The film, Derbyshire on Film – The Peak District, will include a compilation of beautiful amateur and professional films, which have been enhanced, re-edited and themed to illustrate life in the county in the 20th century.

Mace’s development manager, Emma Morley, will introduce the screening, which will include memories from 1966 of the flooding of Derwent Village and Ashopton to make way for Ladybower Reservoir, quarrying and cutting of Blue John, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall in the 1960s and footage of the Dovedale stepping stones from the 1930s to 1980s. The screening will finish with a Q&A session.

The film evening is free. However, donations to the Arkwright Society are welcome.

Places are limited and advance booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. For further details and reservations, contact the visitor services’ department at Cromford Mills on 01629 825995 or visit www.arkwrightsociety.org.uk.
