One-man look at city life
Kalagora at Nottingham Playhouse
THE Playroom at Nottingham Playhouse will be the setting on Saturday, June 23, for a performance of Kalagora, by Siddharta Bose, starting at 8pm.
Kalagora is a thoroughly original, ingenious one-man production.
From the street surrealism of Mumbai, ‘city of motion’, to London’s East End via Manhattan on Millennium night. Kalagora, the global wanderer, collides with a midget tobacconist, paranoid immigration officers and cross-dressing hedonists, observing the uncanny and grotesque at the start of the 21st century.
Siddhartha Bose is a poet, playwright, and performer based in Hackney, London. His work has appeared in Voice Recognition: 21 Poets for the 21st Century (Bloodaxe, 2009) and The HarperCollins Book of Modern English Poetry by Indians (HarperCollins, 2011). His first collection, Kalagora, appeared from Penned in the Margins last year.
He has been featured on BBC 4 (TV) and BBC Radio 3, and was dubbed ‘one of the ten rising stars of British poetry’ by Times Online. He is a Leverhulme Fellow in Drama at Queen Mary, University of London, and is developing a full-length play with WhyNotTheatre, Toronto.
The performance is presented by Penned in the Margins, a dynamic independent publisher and literary arts company based in East London.
Kalagora is directed by Russell Bender and produced by Tom Chivers of Penned in the Margins.
Tickets cost £9 (£6 concessions), available from the box office on 0115 941 9419.
