Shakespeare at Kedleston Hall

The picturesque grounds of the National Trust’s Kedleston Hall will become a stage this summer with open air performances by two award winning theatre companies.

The season starts on July 6 with Shakespeare’s best-loved romantic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, whisking audiences away on a thrilling journey to magical forests.

Star-crossed lovers, playful fairies and raucous travelling players come together to create a fun and frolicsome summer evening.

On July 26, children can enjoy a fun-filled show as Roald Dahl’s much loved book The Twits is brought to life on stage.

Mr and Mrs Twit are two ugly, smelly, nasty people who spend their lives playing tricks on each other. They also enjoy being cruel to animals, including luring birds to glue-smothered trees so they can be baked into a pie. One day, the arrival of the Roly-Poly Bird allows the birds to get their revenge. A truly delightful production for all the family. Emma, the last in the trio of productions at Kedleston Hall takes place on August 3. Emma is a young woman determined to pair her friends off with their perfect matches. But could it be that amidst her plotting, her own true love has been there all along? Filled with glorious fun, this brand new adaptation of Jane Austen’s comedy of manners promises love and laughter aplenty.

Jonathan Turley, visitor experience manager at Kedleston Hall said: “Our outdoor theatre events are always popular and the pleasure grounds are the perfect place to enjoy a summer evening and some fantastic entertainment with friends or family.

“There is always a wonderful atmosphere at these productions, and it’s lovely to see so many people sat enjoying great entertainment, and the cast never fail to encapsulate the essence of the stories, and portray them in a witty, easily accessible format”

A Midsummer Nights Dream and Emma start at 7.30pm (with gates from 6.30pm) and tickets cost £14. The Twits starts at 5pm, and tickets cost £12 for adults, £8 for children, or £32 for a family. Tickets can be booked by calling 01332 842191. The productions are suitable for all ages.
