Two events to boost charity

two events are being staged this week by Wirksworth and District Amnesty International Group.

They will both take place in the Town Hall, based on Coldwell Street, Wirksworth.

On Friday, January 18, there will be a screening at 7.30pm of The Whistleblower.

Kathryn Bolkovac, played by Rachel Weisz, volunteered for Bosnia’s peacekeeping force in the late 1990s, working on domestic abuse cases, which brought her into contact with the leading UN officer for gender issues, Madeleine Rees. There will also be an introduction and discussion afterwards by Madeleine Rees, who is portrayed by Vanessa Redgrave in the film.

On Saturday, January 19, Captain Chaos Celidh Crew will be supporting Amnesty International with their Grand Barn Dance. Blow away the January blues with some great moves.

The event runs from 8pm-midnight. Tickets are £10 (£5 concessions).
