FUN-LOVING amateur theatre stars hope to perform annual community pantomimes, after their excellent first production sold out every show.
The Shoestring Players delighted packed crowds at Bakewell Town Hall with their debut play, Aladdin, from last Thursday to Saturday.
Director David Heptonstall, with coaching help from Gill Shimwell, brought together around 100 residents aged from seven to 70 for the performances.
Organiser Pat Bryant said: "It was absolutely wonderful. Since it was our first time, we were all on such a steep learning curve and didn't even know each other when we started, yet it became such a community production.
"I think it will be an annual thing – everybody has got the bug now."
The Rev Tony Kaunhoven, from Bakewell Parish Church, helped launch the group in summer 2009 and starred as Widow Twankey.
Cllr Judith Twigg secured a £750 county council grant for the theatre company, from the members' community leadership scheme.
