Car-dumping in the Dales has fallen by 67 per cent in the last four years, according to new statistics.
Derbyshire Dales District Council revealed it cleared 20 cars in 2007/8, compared to 61 in 2003/04.

Council chiefs said the drop was due to a crackdown on dumping, faster clear-ups and rising metal prices.

Council leader Cllr Lewis Rose said: "A few years ago, you'd have had to pay someone to take your old car away but now, scrap metal dealers will pay you up to £1,000 for the pleasure.

"This has definitely helped the situation but the district council is also playing an important role.

"People tell us that these eyesores make them feel unsafe and figures like this show the district council is working hard to make people feel safe and secure," he added.

If you see an abandoned vehicle, ring the district council's CleanTeam on 01629 761215.
