Bakewell youngsters stepped out to take part in a record-breaking bid and raise awareness of road safety.

The pupils from Bakewell Infant School took part in the Buckle My Shoe Walking Bus event along with more than 2,000 children across the East Midlands.

It aimed to encourage drivers to slow to 20mph outside schools and was organised by the Brake charity.

Chief executive Mary Williams said: "In so many communities parents are too scared to choose the green option and allow their children to walk to school, resulting in more congestion and danger on our roads through the school run.

"Children are innocent learners who make mistakes, and who deserve the opportunity to explore their communities on foot and learn essential road safety life skills, while protected by slow speeds and safe crossing places and pavements."
