Operation Dynamo has recruited three more Dales businesses to its campaign in a bid to reduce thefts from diesel tanks.

The initiative, which is run by Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, aims to deter thieves by adding easily-identifiable dye to diesel tanks which police are able to track.

Council leader Lewis Rose said: “We are delighted more businesses are signing up to Operation Dynamo because initiatives like this deter thieves and help us maintain our record as one of the lowest crime areas in the country.”

The first prominent company to join the campaign at the end of last year was Tarmac, at its Derbyshire Dales site of Dene Quarry, Matlock.

Now three more businesses have joined Operation Dynamo – Bleaklow Industries at their Backdale Quarry at Longstone Edge and Road Haulage companies K & H Blackwell Ltd and RD Geeson Ltd of Middleton by Wirksworth.

Jim Hollingworth, spokesman for K & H, said: “This is a great opportunity to support a really useful initiative.”

“Fuel theft is a serious issue and we can help keep people safe by warning thieves of the dangers of trespassing onto working sites to obtain fuel illegally.”

Sgt. Phil Hollington said: “We would encourage businesses to sign up to Operation Dynamo.”

“We would also urge people to contact us if they see anyone acting suspiciously in their local area.”

To report any suspicious activity contact Derbyshire Police on 101 or to pass on information anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 555.
