Stores show their sparkle
Trophy–winning traders have been spreading a little Christmas cheer with their festive shop windows.
Robert Young Florists, in Crown Square, Matlock, was proud to take the first place trophy in the annual Matlock business Christmas window competition.
Owner Robert Young has transformed his premises into a winter wonderland, with a glitzy array of decorations for shoppers to feast their eyes upon.
The newly opened Treehouse Boutique, in Matlock Green, which sells both new and pre–loved children’s clothes, won the runner’s up trophy with its ‘jingle bells’ inspired window.
The competition has been running since 1980 and Matlock Town Team has recently taken over the running of it.
Danielle Barker, from the town team, said: “The independent judge chose Robert Young’s was the winner because he had taken his Christmas theme throughout the shop, both inside and outside.
“There are baubles hanging off branches outside.
“He’d really gone the extra mile.
“Treehouse Boutique was awarded second place as it has a very eye catching display that is the first thing you see on the approach into town from Matlock Green.”
Robert Young’s name has been inscribed on the first place trophy next to the names of winners from the last three decades, and Danielle hopes the contest will go on for many years to come.
“This year was very competitive and people went to a lot of effort,” she continued.
“We are hoping to make more businesses aware that the competition is taking place.
“We want to make it bigger and better ever year.”
