TAK30VER – the 30th Anniversary Concert, is to take place at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall on Sunday, November 18, at 7pm.
To celebrate 30 years of world-class entertainment at the venue, over 200 dancers and musicians come together for one night only.
Under the artistic direction of renowned choreographer and director Filip Van Huffel of Retina Dance Company, both professional and community dancers, aged from 7 to 70, join forces to showcase dance styles from street dance to lyrical ballet, contemporary dance to lindy hop, tap and swing.
The dancers will be joined by a 21-piece local orchestra, two live DJs and the 40-piece NTU choir conducted by Matthew Hopkins. They will be performing an equally diverse range of music in a specially commissioned original score by local rising composer Elizabeth Charlesworth.
David Longford, the Royal Concert Hall’s education manager, explained: “This unique, one-off concert will take the audience on an incredibly uplifting journey, telling the story of the hall over the past 30 years, celebrating its remarkable design and acoustics through live music and dance.
“The show will start with just one dancer on stage, accompanied by the evocative sound of a single pin drop. Straight away, the show starts to build and build, each piece flowing into the next until it reaches an epic finale featuring all 200 performers with spectacular sound and lights, confetti cannons … the works!”
Explaining the ethos behind the concert, David added: “Right from the outset, we wanted this event to reflect the sheer variety of entertainment that audiences have been enjoying in their thousands since our doors first opened back in 1982.
“To do that with local, home-grown talent was absolutely key to this project. Our artistic director, Filip Van Huffel, and composer, Elizabeth Charlesworth, have worked incredibly closely with all the local groups involved to bring this wonderful event to life.”
TAK30VER’s artistic director, Filip Van Huffel, added: “I am extremely excited and honoured to work as artistic director on TAK30VER at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.
“This project will see an amazing group of over 200 performers from Nottingham in an extravaganza of dance and live music performance. I am very proud that myself and Retina Dance Company can lead on this flagship event that will celebrate the past and establish a new beginning for the next 30 years ahead”.
