A village came alive with music and traditional entertainment for annual May Day celebrations.

The Ashover carnival featured a packed programme of street theatre and sporting entertainment.

Rosemary Early, who co–ordinated the organising team, said: “Lots of people tell us how much they enjoy May Day in Ashover.”

Ashover brass band led the parade and there were also maypole and morris dancers, welly–wangers, hedgehog rollers, an escapologist, Carlo the clown, Punch and Judy shows, the Honey Belles Choir and a barrel organ player Patrick Cooke.

The carnival is organised by volunteers from All Saints Church.
