The new ‘super’ care home planned for Darley Dale is part of a wider shake up of services costing the council £200million.

Derbyshire County Council has already opened a similar centre in Staveley and have plans to open another in Swadlincote later this year.

As part of the scheme, the authority plans to create at least 1,600 ‘extra care’ modern one and two–bedroomed apartments with on–site care in 27 locations across Derbyshire, available within five miles for most people.

It aims to give people the chance to live independently with their own front door and stay together as a couple.

Another new community care centres is planned in Heanor offering specialist dementia care.

The county council has also planned to create two split site community care centres covering Ashbourne and the High Peak.

It is also seeking to provide new day services, as well as health and wellbeing zones across the county.
