Appeal for taxi driver who may have witnessed A6 collision

Police investigating a collision on the A6 in Newtown in which a pedestrian was killed are appealing for a taxi driver who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

At around 1.25am on Sunday, March 23 61-year-old Keith Ambrey was found with fatal injuries on the A6, Buxton Road outside Newtown Primary School.

It is understood he was in collision with a 4x4 style vehicle.

Within minutes of the collision taking place it is believed a private hire vehicle travelling from the direction of Furness Vale towards Newtown may have stopped briefly and the driver spoke to a man at the scene.

It is known that this taxi then turned right at the traffic lights in the direction of New Mills.

Police are trying to identify this taxi and its occupants as they may have information pertinent to the investigation.

A 73-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

The taxi driver or anyone with information is asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary’s Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting incident number 68 of 23/3/14.
