Apprenticeships: an alternative route after GCSEs
As GCSE students receive their exam results this week, many will go on to study for A-levels, whilst for some young people, work-based learning, such as Apprenticeships, offer a more appropriate alternative.
By taking a vocational route, young people can earn money whilst learning specific skills relevant to the career they want to follow.
Steve Meadows, chief executive of Chesterfield-based training provider, NLT Training Services said: "Apprenticeships give young people the chance to access 'on the job' training, study for a nationally recognised qualification and earn while they learn.
"There are over 100 different Apprenticeship courses to choose from in a variety of sectors, so there is definitely something out there to suit all tastes."
Apprenticeships are open to 16 – 24 year olds who are currently not in full time education. Entry requirements are flexible because Apprenticeships are not just based on academic achievement as employers and training providers are equally as interested in a candidate's abilities and their enthusiasm to work in that chosen industry.
Steve Meadows continued: "Apprenticeships should not be seen as the easy option, they take a lot of hard work and commitment and can provide a good career pathway. Apprentices are also expected to be dedicated, responsible and be able to work individually and as part of a team."
NLT offers a wide range of Apprenticeship programmes in Business Administration, Customer Service, Warehouse Storage and Distribution, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Accounts, IT and Food and Drink Manufacturing with flexible start dates throughout the year.
