Art on the move at Buxton gallery
Professor Michael Vickers, speaker at the recent Friends of Buxton Museum and Art Gallery meeting, artist Johnny White, and Lindsay Crowe, Chair of the Friends of Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, unveil the new sculpture.
A NEW moving sculpture has been installed at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.
Inspired by the fossilised animals and plants in the Terrace Road gallery, ‘Branching Out’ features a giant dragonfly atop a Carboniferous scale tree.
The sculpture was commissioned by the Friends of Buxton Museum and Art Gallery from Derbyshire artist Johnny White, who often uses recycled and reclaimed materials in his sculptures.
For ‘Branching Out’ he has incorporated the tuning keys of two pianos, a handle from a meat grinder and metal cutlery among other intriguing items.
The project was funded by a grant from The Bingham Trust, fund-raising by the Friends group and a contribution from Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.
