Bakewell hotel owner slams inspector show
ECCENTRIC hotel owner David Donegan says his language on a television inspector show has a sparked a small flurry of complaints - but he hasn't even watched the episode.
Bakewell hotel, The Rutland Arms, starred in Channel 5 series The Hotel Inspector, where award-winning hotelier Alex Polizzi visits struggling firms to offer advice, last Thursday.
Viewers were told how the Georgian building was busy in summer but struggled to fill rooms off season - draining Mr Donegan of almost 1million as he tried to keep it afloat - while Ms Polizzi clashed with him over housekeeping, a messy reception and lack of leadership leaving staff morale at rock bottom.
Mr Donegan, 69, said people had complained about his swearing on the show, filmed from December to February, since it aired.
He added: "I haven't watched it, my wife has. I can't stand Alex Polizzi - we didn't get on.
"We didn't apply to be on the show, they rang us up one day to ask if we wanted to. I said I'll think about it and the next day the TV crew were filming outside and we took it from there.
"We've had about six people ringing up to complain about the language, calling me a disgrace."
In Thursday's show the Rutland was praised for its food, ideal location and splendour while a tired ballroom was given a successful revamp.
