Bakewell unveils its secret gardens

Bakewell's secret gardens will be revealed this Bank Holiday weekend in a bid to raise cash for Oxfam.

Bakewell Oxfam Supporters is holding the Secret Gardens event on Sunday August 24 between 2pm and 6pm.

This is the fifth year the group has showcased some of the garden treasures tucked away in parts of the town and this year has a distinct 'watery' theme with the gardens situated around Bridge Street, Bath Street, Castle Street, Milford and Holme Lane.

Look out for green balloons on the day marking where the gardens are located. You can pay one charge of 4 at any of the garden entrances giving access to all gardens and do the trail in any order you prefer.

For a preview map of the route you can pick a map up at Bakewell Tourist Information Office or alternatively phone 01629 813392 for more information.

Bakewell and Eyam Community Transport bus will be providing a free shuttlebus service around the trail to and from Rutland Square and there will be a supply of trail maps onboard. Refreshments will also be available at the Medway Centre. All proceeds will go towards the continuing work of Oxfam around the world.

So far this year the group has had a busy and rewarding time arranging a variety of events. What's more 1,800 has been sent off to Oxfam and this is 800 more than at the same time last year.
