The new year got off to a wonderful start for proud parents across Derbyshire as their bouncing babies entered the world.

Little Max Barlow was the first boy to be born at Chesterfield Royal Hospital in 2014.

He arrived at 5.05pm, weighing 6lb 3½oz.

His mum Klaire, 28, of Derwent Drive in Tibshelf, said: “It’s lovely to think he was the first boy to be born at the hospital.

“He was due on December 30 but he stayed on, making it a wonderful start to the new year.

“He’s a very happy little lad and me, my partner, Michael, and his big brother, Tommy-Ray, absolutely dote on him.”

Adorable Olivia Newbold entered the world at 4.56am on January 1.

The bundle of joy weighed 7lb 15oz.

She was born to parents Maryanne and Duane who said they were “over the moon”.

Maryanne, 23, of Wateringbury Grove, Staveley, added: “She’s absolutely gorgeous and beautiful. She’s a little angel and welcoming her was the best possible start to 2014.

“Her big brother, Cory, is already very protective of her – it’s very sweet.”

Meanwhile little Lacey Clements was born at 6.38pm. Her mum, Lisa, 32, of Spa Croft Tibshelf, said: “She’s a very happy and content little girl.

“She was due on New Year’s Eve but came a day later so there were many reasons to celebrate on New Year’s Day.” She added her partner, Steve, was enjoying fatherhood.
