Big day for Arc

Matlock’s flagship leisure centre celebrated its first anniversary by recording 350,000 visitors.

Exactly a year after it opened, noon on Friday, the first two people to enter Arc leisure centre, off Bakewell Road, were awarded special gifts.

Ingrid Moore, of Fritchley, and Andy Whittaker, of Matlock were both given baskets of fruit by centre manager Paul Blakemore.

Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Communities Committee, Cllr Carol Walker, said: “Building Arc Leisure Matlock was a response to what the people of the Dales told us was needed.

“The numbers that keep coming back to Arc have staggered even the most optimistic on the district council.”
