Blue plaque for author

POPULAR author Alison Utley is to get an honorary blue plaque at her childhood home in the Derbyshire Dales.

Castle Top Farm, Cromford, is the setting for Uttley’s Little Grey Rabbit stories, as well as the writer’s birthplace, and Derbyshire County Council will soon put a plaque there following a public vote.

Former Blue Peter presenter Simon Groom and Uttley biographer Professor Denis Judd will be among the guests at the unveiling on Monday, September 24, at 2.30pm.

Cllr Andrew Lewer, Derbyshire County Council leader and cabinet member for culture, said he was pleased to be able to honour the world-renowned writer in her home county.

He said: “We are commemorating a fascinating Derbyshire personality who deserves to be even better known.”
