Bowel cancer screening

MORE people in Matlock are to be regularly screened for bowel cancer thanks to life-saving kits being sent to a new age group.

Around 12,000 70 to 74-year-olds across Derbyshire are expected to receive home screening kits in the post this year as the national Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is rolled out further.

Derbyshire is one of the first counties in the country to increase the age range which currently stands at 60 to 69-year-olds.

Julie Yapp, cancer screening co-ordinator for Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust, said: "We hope everyone who gets a kit through their door will take the opportunity to get themselves screened.

"It's a disease that if caught early can be easily treated but, if left undetected, can be fatal."

Anyone over 75 can request a kit by calling 0800 707 6060.
