A brother and sister are going above and beyond – a mile above ground to be precise – to raise money for charity with a sponsored skydive.
Tara and Chole Mallinson will to taking the plunge on September 21 to raise money for the MS Society as their mother, Teresa, suffers from the illness.
The family is from Chapel–en–le–Frith originally and Tara, 32, still lives there now.
She said: “Our mum developed MS early, she was in her 30s.”
The pair also want to raise awareness of Multiple sclerosis (MS), which is a neurological condition affecting around 100,000 people in the UK, the majority of whom are women. Symptoms include fatigue, vision problems and difficulty with walking.
Teresa is now aged 50 and has been living in a nursing home for seven years.
Seeing his mother’s condition deteriorate due to her illness, Chole, 30, of Whaley Bridge, initially came up with the idea of helping the charity.
Tara got on board and started organising fundraising events, such as a sponsored ten–mile walk and a bag pack at Morrisons.
Recently she organised a raffle at the Royal Oak, in Chapel, in which prizes were donated from local companies such as Buxton Opera House, Halls Mica Hardware, Chapel–en–le–Frith Golf Club and Branching Out Garden Centre, which is based at Alderbrook Centre, Chinley, where she works.
They have also received generous donations from local firms Ferodo, in Chapel, and Stephanie Bleach Works, in Chinley.
So far the pair has managed to raise in excess of £1,500 for the charity, but taking part in the skydive, which they are doing at the same time, will be the biggest leap yet.
“We’re very nervous but I’m sort of excited at the same time,” Tara said.
The brother and sister team have been impressed by the support they have received from the community.
Tara commented: “Lots of people from work have been involved and I have been really impressed by how generous people have been.
“Even when we did the bag packs, people where giving money and when you think about how many charities there are it’s remarkable how generous people are.
“I just wanted to thank everybody who has been involved – the local community and businesses for being involved – it means a lot to me and my brother.”
