Staff at a Buxton school are celebrating their first good Ofsted report in over a decade.

Manifold C of E Primary School has been rated “good”, the second highest grading, by the government department after a two-day inspection last month.

The small school, off Leek Road, was placed in the bottom seven per cent of primary schools after being deemed “inadequate” in March 2011 and was issued with a notice to improve.

A follow-up monitoring inspection in November 2011 showed the school, which has 56 pupils aged three to nine, had made “inadequate progress”. In June 2012, the Warslow school was upgraded to “satisfactory”, but the last time it received a good rating was in 2003.

Jean Fletcher, who took over as headteacher in September 2011, said: “We’re obviously very pleased. We’re a rapidly improving school. The main change has been the curriculum, now it’s thematic and we have lots of visitors, trips and activities. We’ve all worked really hard and the children enjoy coming to school.”

Lead inspector Clive Lewis said in the report: “The school has improved considerably since its last inspection due to the strong leadership and hard work of the headteacher, teachers and governors.”
