Buxton Wells Dressing Festival set to begin

Buxton’s Wells Dressing Festival kicks off this weekend with the crowning of the queen and blessing of the wells.

Sunday’s event is the beginning of a week of festivities, culminating in the annual carnival on July 12.

The blessing of the wells takes place at 1.45pm at St Anne’s Church on Bath Road, before moving through the town to bless each well in turn. Among those attending the event will be the retiring queen Katelyn Mycock.

Attention then turns to this year’s royalty, queen Kelsie Johnson, rosebud Esme Anderson, and attendants Amy Brittain Cartlidge, Matilda Anderson, Alexandra Farlam and Evie Howe, who will be crowned by Chapel-en-le-Frith paralympian Anthony Kappes MBE at St John’s Church at 3pm.

The fun continues throughout the week with the annual carnival fun fair which opens on Wednesday and a car treasure hunt starting at St Ann’s Well at 6.30pm on Friday.

On carnival day, there will be a Spitfire flypast, the Buxton Carnival road race which starts at 1.45pm from New Wye Street, and the parade, beginning at 2pm from the train station.

To see the wells being created, visit St John’s Church on Friday or Saturday.
