Chapel-en-le-Frith wind turbine approved

The council has approved plans for a 15-metre high wind turbine in Chapel-en-le-Frith, which residents claimed would ruin the appearance of their town.

Members of High Peak Borough Council’s development committee meeting on Monday voted in favour of granting permission for the proposal for the five-kilowatt turbine on Lower Eaves.

Resident Dennis Hill told councillors he was concerned about the noise and visual pollution posed by the application.

He said that the serene image of Chapel on the front of a leaflet about the town would become inaccurate, adding: “The only benefits will be counteracted by the loss of tourism.”

Mr Hill continued that it was nonsensical the council had responded to complaints about the noise caused by a neighbour’s cockerel, yet were ready to grant permission to a scheme that would equate to “the noise of a thousand cockerels”.

Urging councillors to reject the scheme, he said: “It doesn’t make sense to me or to anybody and it shouldn’t make sense to you.”

Cllr Pat Jenner opened the debate, moving the application for approval, saying that the turbine had been subject to a noise and visual impact statement.
