Church rings the changes

Bell ringers in Ashover are ringing the changes after agreeing to buy new ropes for all ten bells at All Saints Church.

Tower Captain Barry Watts said: “Many of our existing ropes are showing signs of wear and tear. We cannot take the risk of a rope breaking during ringing.”

Each of the new ropes will be 55ft but because there are now only two bell-rope manufacturers in existence, delivery will be some twelve months away.

Barry said: “With a total cost in excess of £1,700, the long delivery period is a blessing in one respect. It gives us lots of time to organise the very necessary fund-raising activities!”
