Con-artist cop calls
BUSINESSES are warned to be vigilant following numerous incidents of con-artists pretending to represent Derbyshire police.
There have already been three incidents today where businesses have by called by somebody offering advertising space in a magazine or asking for sponsorship for a drug abuse project.
When one recipient queried the caller the caller hung up.
A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: “We do not sell advertising space in magazines or receive any payment from any third party organisation.
“Always confirm the details of any payment requests with the organisation they represent from verifiable contact details.”
The spokesman also confirmed that there have been similar incidents recorded in Nottinghamshire recently.
