Council to evict traveller community

THE district council have started legal proceedings to evict a traveller community who have set up camp in Matlock Bath.

The travellers, who arrived on Saturday, September 29, have taken residence in the coach park near Matlock Bath railway station.

Solicitors were appointed by the council on Monday, October 1, and papers were presented before the County Court today.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Dales District Council said: “Eviction orders should be served this afternoon but at this stage we can’t be sure how long the Court will give the travellers to leave the site

“However, we will be pushing ahead as quickly as the law allows, as the coach park is well used for our weekend Illuminations.”
