News

LOCAL authorities are preparing to host events and help those wishing to hold their own street parties to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Derbyshire County Council is lighting a beacon at Grindlow on June 4, will be helping to promote a concert at Highfields School, at Upper Lumsdale, Matlock, on May 5, and there will be a Beating the Retreat march on June 19 from Matlock’s County Hall car park.

Others including Chesterfield Borough, Bolsover District, NE Derbyshire District, Derbyshire Dales and Amber Valley Borough councils are inviting people wanting to organise street parties to contact them for advice.

Councils will also be organising floral displays which will focus around the extended Diamond Jubilee weekend from June 2 to June 5 marking 60 years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. Those wishing to publicise events can contact comment@derbyshiretimes.co.uk.
