Bakewell has a new mayor in the form of a photographer come filmmaker.

Photographer and filmmaker Paul Morgans was voted into the top spot by Bakewell Town Council at its annual meeting this week.

The 45–year–old lives in Bakewell with his partner, Janet, and has been on the town council for a year.

“I really like this place and I just wanted to get involved with it,” he said.

“I grew up in mid Wales and I have lived in lots of different places all over the world, but I discovered this place about ten years ago and thought ‘this is amazing’.”

Initially he bought a holiday cottage in Bakewell, but after realising he was spending all his time here, decided to move to the Peak District permanently five years ago.

During his year in office, Cllr Morgans hopes to continue the Bakewell Partnership, set up by former mayor Frank Hall last year.

As a lover of cookery who sells his own home made chilli sauce, Cllr Morgans hopes to set up a baking festival.
